MenuPics ("we", "the app") is an AI menu scanner for iOS that helps you see real photos of dishes before you order. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your rights.
MenuPics does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number. The app receives a server-issued anonymous app user ID on first launch to track your scan balance, purchases, and app security. This identifier is not linked to your real identity.
When you scan a menu, the photo you capture or upload is sent to our backend service for AI processing. The backend forwards the image to Google Gemini to extract dish names and descriptions. After processing:
To find real photos of each dish, the app sends dish names (text only, no personal data) to image search providers: Bing Image Search (primary), Pexels, and Wikimedia Commons. Returned image URLs are cached locally on your device for offline viewing.
Your scan history, saved menus, dish images, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not operate a database of your scans or browsing history. You can delete your saved scans at any time from within the app.
MenuPics offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions and consumable scan packs through Apple's App Store. Purchase and billing information is handled entirely by Apple. We do not have access to your payment details. Subscription and purchase status is verified through RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase or entitlement status; no name, email address, phone number, or payment details are shared by MenuPics.
To prevent abuse of our backend services, MenuPics uses Firebase App Check (Apple App Attest and DeviceCheck). These services verify that requests come from a genuine, unmodified copy of the app. App Check does not collect personal information; it only confirms app authenticity using cryptographic device attestation.
MenuPics uses AppsFlyer for marketing attribution to understand which ads or referral sources lead to app installs. AppsFlyer may collect:

MenuPics does not use separate third-party analytics or crash reporting services beyond the attribution, purchase, and security services described above.
MenuPics is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Because MenuPics does not require an account, we do not retain user profiles. Anonymous purchase records are kept by RevenueCat in accordance with their data retention policy. To delete locally stored data, uninstall the app from your device.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
